Accounting Manager

CoSN (the Consortium for School Networking) is the premier professional association for district technology leaders. For over two decades, CoSN has provided leaders with the management, community building, and advocacy tools they need to succeed. Today, CoSN represents over 12 million students in school districts nationwide and continues to grow as a powerful and influential voice in K-12 education. CoSN operates with a full-time staff of twelve individuals and additional contractors based in Washington DC.

This position is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of a small finance office, as well as overseeing administrative functions such as personnel and general administration.  This position supervises a Staff Accountant focused on the preparation of invoices, collections and data entry.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Managing accounts receivable and collections of overdue invoices
  • Managing accounts payable and general ledger data
  • Performing monthly bank reconciliations
  • Assisting in developing the annual budget
  • Preparing monthly internal financial statements
  • Ensuring internal policies and controls are maintained
  • Preparing for the annual audit and all required tax filings
  • Managing cash flow to ensure that funds are available as needed
  • Processing payroll and administering the benefits program
  • Performing the duties of Office Manager
  • Supervising and mentoring the Staff Accountant

Qualifications

The successful candidate will be detail oriented, deadline driven, and able to manage multiple tasks in a small, fast-paced office environment. The successful candidate will be an independent worker with strong interpersonal skills and precise written and verbal communications skills.

A BA/BS in Accounting or related degree and a minimum 5 years of experience managing full service accounting for a nonprofit organization is required. CPA certification is a plus. Demonstrated proficiency with both Quickbooks and Netforum Pro or similar accounting and Association Management Software is required.

Director of Marketing and Communications

CoSN (the Consortium for School Networking) is the premier professional association for district technology leaders. For over two decades, CoSN has provided leaders with the management, community building, and advocacy tools they need to succeed. Today, CoSN represents over 12 million students in school districts nationwide and continues to grow as a powerful and influential voice in K-12 education.

The Director of Marketing and Communications will work collaboratively with key stakeholders, and the management team to create, implement and monitor assigned marketing programs, including the determination of the: marketing strategy; target audience; appropriate communication channels; marketing materials; and the goals for the marketing campaigns and relevant metrics.  

The Director of Marketing and Communications will develop processes and action items to determine and implement the strategy for all assigned marketing campaigns. In addition, the incumbent develops, coordinates administers and maintains promotional, branding, and social media. The incumbent will partner with stakeholders on content, and provide marketing services to program staff, as well as the development of competitive analyses, new audience prospecting, global marketing, all web content and communications delivery systems to ensure the efficient and effective implementation of these activities.

One of the primary responsibilities of this role is to build and execute marketing strategies to position CoSN for continued growth by strategically enhancing its entry in current and new market segments. This is a hands-on position, the person in this role needs to balance strategic and tactical activities and have primary responsibility for their implementation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements a strategic marketing and communications plan to promote CoSN products and services.
  • Coordinates with staff to develop media messaging both print and social.
  • Manages and coordinates promotional campaigns and in-kind trades with media partners
  • Creates marketing materials for all CoSN products and events including the Annual Conference, CTO Clinics, Membership, Webinars, Publications, Sponsorship, and Certification in consultation with staff.
  • Oversees the development and dissemination of all marketing messages on websites and collateral materials to ensure they are coherent, consistent and effective.
  • Manages external communications for the grant-funded Trusted Learning Environment program.
  • Coordinates Board communications.
  • Supervises Communications Manager
  • Supervises external Communications Consultant
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

The successful candidate must have an exemplary presentation, writing, and editing skills. Strong verbal communications skills and understanding of how to properly interact with various external customers and volunteers is essential. The successful candidate will have strategic and analytical skills, an understanding of market analysis, exceptional creativity and the ability to use different influencing styles to achieve the end goal. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment while juggling multiple tasks simultaneously and independently.

BA/BS in Marketing or related degree and a minimum 5 years’ experience in a marketing position with a for-profit or nonprofit organization is required. Association management experience a plus. Must be familiar with the use of database technology to manage the electronic distribution of messaging.
